Visa to Egypt: Tourist Visa, Business Visa

In order to obtain a visa to Egypt applicants should provide the following:

Tourist Visa

  1. Valid, signed U.S. passport. Must be valid for at least 6 months after departing and contain at least one blank visa page.
  2. One passport-type photograph
  3. One filled out visa application form
  4. Printed and filled out order form.
  5. Copy of round trip airline ticket or itinerary.

Business Visa

  1. Valid, signed U.S. passport. Must be valid for at least 6 months after departing and contain at least one blank visa page.
  2. One passport-type photograph
  3. One filled out visa application form
  4. Printed and filled out order form.
  5. Copy of round trip airline ticket or itinerary.
  6. For business visitors, a business letter of introduction and financial responsibility is required, to be typewritten on your company letterhead, signed by a company officer and addressed to: Embassy of Egypt, Visa Section, Washington DC
  7. The letter must state all of the following:
    • Nature of business to be performed;
    • Name and address of reference to be visited;
    • Guarantee of return transportation and sufficient funds for the visit.
    • The letter should be signed by an officer of the company other than the applicant.

Additional information

The Egypt tourist or business visa is issued for a single entry within three months, for stay of up to 30 days. Multiple entries are issued for business travelers on written request. A double entry visa can be issued for tourists on written request, must show copy of itinerary indicating two entries. The visa may be extended, on a monthly basis, by showing receipts for currency exchange at the rate of USD180 per month. All visitors to Egypt must register with immigration/police within seven days of arrival, or face a fine upon departure. Hotels and tour operators will perform the registration, which is evidented by a triangular registration stamp in the passport. If registering yourself, register at the Mugamma building in Cairo. It is a very simple process which usually takes a few minutes at most and is free of charge, (except at police stations). This procedure can be completed in Alexandria at the Passport Registration Office on Sharia Talaat Harb. You may take the following into Egypt without incurring customs duty:
  • 200 cigarettes, 25 cigars or 200 g tobacco
  • 2 litres of alcohol
  • Perfume for personal use
  • Gifts to the value of EGP500.00
  • Cash, travellers cheques, credit cards and gold over the value of EGP500.00 must be declared on arrival.
Drugs, firearms and cotton may not be brought into the country. The export of any antiquity or any item older than 100 years without a license is forbidden.
