Zangiata Mausoleum - Tashkent, Uzbekistan

The mausoleum of Zangiata in Tashkent was built by Tamerlane in the nineties of the 14th century. The real name for Zangiata, which is a nickname for black, was Sheikh Ay-Khodja ("the father of life"). He came from the family of descendants of Khazret Arslan Bobo; and was the fifth "murid" of Sufi Khodja Ahmad Yassavi considered a spiritual forefather of all Turkic tribes of Central Asia and Kazakhstan.

Unique details of this striking sight include the carved marble headstone, remains of abacus in gurhana, mosaic mihrab in ziarathona, and mosaic panel on the portal. The complex consists of mosque Namazgoh (1870); minaret (1914-1915); mausoleum of Zangiata; and courtyard with living cells (hujras) of former madrasah built in the 18-19 centuries.
